What is a Getcha Going Guide?

And how does it help you get the answers?

A Getcha Going Guide is an instruction manual to help you address the concerns of your heart with the help of the Lord by engaging with Him in mighty prayer.

It explains important principles of prayer and walks you through the ongoing process.

It serves as a place to record the questions you pray about and the answers you receive from the Lord so that you can refer to them as you follow His direction and seek further instruction from Him.

It helps you go after the things God wants for you and make the changes He wants you to make.

Who I am and What I do

Shauna Gappmayer, Getcha Going Pep Talks, A little lady with a little podcast about mighty prayer and how God can help you find the right solutions to complex community development issues.

My favorite scripture:

“…I will not cease to call upon God. I have other things to inquire of Him.” (Moses 1:18)

My Story:

My story begins with two assignments I received from the Lord.

1. To proclaim those things which are right and those things which will be helpful and beneficial to you in your life.

2. To help people know how to pray.

Then add my passion for community development. I first got interested in community development when I served on a number of committees in a small town in Arizona. I got to participate on the economic development committee, a healthy communities committee, an active transportation project, and a big water project committee. I enjoyed this so much that I decided to learn more in hopes of getting a job as a city planner. The more I learned, the more I knew that we’ve got issues, and we are going to need the help of God to make things right. And God wants to help us. That is why he has given us the opportunity to pray. I decided to take God up on his offer and pray about the issues. And I learned that he does answer, and that he has the best ideas.

Where did you get that idea?

I went on the internet in search of resources and information. These 3 people have given me some big ideas to think about and pray about. First, I found Jason Slaughter and his podcast Not Just Bikes.

What I learned from Jason Slaughter
  1. That there are good reasons to hate Houston.
  2. That bicycles can be a practical means of transportation.
  3. That cities must be designed or redesigned to facilitate bicycle transportation.
  4. That people in Finland can bicycle in the snow and people in Canada can’t and why.
  5. That nobody should have to own and operate a vehicle (with all the costs of car ownership) in order to access basic goods and services and participate in society.
  6. That designing cities that force people to drive/own a car is wrong.
  7. That cities and neighborhoods that are car dependent are costing us more than they are worth.
  8. He introduced me to Chuck Marohn and Chuck’s organization, Strong Towns.

What I learned from Chuck Marohn.
  1. All about Stroads-not exactly  a street or a road-it’s trying to be both- a place where people do busines and a place that moves cars very quickly- a recipe for disaster.
  2. Stroads are crazy dangerous and inefficient
  3. Hierarchal stroad systems with small streets, collectors, arterials and highways feed congestion the way small rivers feed large rivers. Both systems get flooded.
  4. That American community development is a ponzi scheme.
  5. That getting people out of their cars is the biggest thing we could do for public safety.
  6. Streets are dynamic human habitat and that they should be.
  7. The best The best The strongest communities are built incrementally by the people for the people
  8. Designing streets using Strong Towns method would eleviate traffic congestion and build wealth for the citizens and for the city.
What I learned from Jason Roberts
  1. Someone should do something. Take action
